Spotlight: Sommore

Sommore, also known as the “Queen of Comedy,” has received the Richard Pryor Award for Comic of the Year and was the first woman to host BET’s “Comic View.” She returns to NYC on April Fools Day – Saturday April 1st – to host The April Fools Comedy Show at Madison Square Garden.

IN TELEVISION

Sommore has appeared on various shows including HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at the Apollo, ComicView, and BET Live from L.A. She has also done guest appearances on television sitcoms The Hughleys and The Parkers, and she has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Sommore also appeared on Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav.

IN MOVIES

Sommore made her film debut playing Cookie in Friday After Next. Cookie is Uncle Elroy’s current girlfriend, after he dumped Aunt Shuga, Cookie’s older sister.

Sommore has had multiple film appearances since, including Soul Plane, Dirty Laundry, A Miami Tail and Something New.

THE QUEENS OF COMEDY TOUR

The Queens of Comedy is both a sequel and spin-off film of The Original Kings of Comedy both created and produced by Walter Latham. The film follows four black female stand-up comedians at Memphis’s Orpheum Theatre.

Sommore and fellow female comedians Mo’Nique, Laura Hayes, and Adele Givens were the stars on The Queens of Comedy, which was filmed and subsequently aired on Showtime and released on DVD.
