MIKE EPPS: (appearing Sept. 4)
Comedian and actor Mike Epps has generated quite a buzz among his peers and within the industry for being one of the funniest comedic actors emerging in the Hollywood spotlight. Mike is currently on his own national comedy tour, “Mike Epps: On the Edge” which is selling out major concert venues across the country. It was recently announced that HBO will develop “The Unsuccessful Thug”, a half-hour comedy series based on Mike’s experiences growing up in Indianapolis and occasionally running afoul of the law. Says Epps in Daily Variety, “I wasn’t cut out to be mean, but I was in a mean world and participating in mean things to survive.” The sitcom will journey Mike’s life as he took on standup comedy on a dare and began to put his bad behavior behind him.
Also on his plate, he is scheduled to portray Richard Pryor in the upcoming bio pic of the comedic legend’s life. Mike was personally chosen for the role by Pryor himself, and spent the last year visiting with Richard prior to his recent death. It is with great pride that Mike will take on this role of a lifetime. “I don’t feel pressure from the audience necessarily, I feel pressure for myself to do right for Richard himself.” Mike also recently appeared in Something New.
SHERYL UNDERWOOD: (appearing Sept. 4)
Sheryl Underwood is one of the funniest and topical standup comics working on the road today. Sheryl can be seen as “Catfish Rita” in “Beauty Shop starring Queen Latifah. The New York Times called Sheryl a “…scene-stealing vendor…” and Entertainment Weekly said… "there are fun touches…like the soul food peddler (Sheryl Underwood) who keeps offering folks “monkey bread” followed by a nutty jungle screech.”
As co-host of BET’s talk show “Oh Drama!” Sheryl was an immediate hit. Black Entertainment Television recognized Sheryl’s way with words and sharp appeal…called on her to host her own show "Hollah!” Always a member of the BET family, Sheryl was brought back to Comic View with her own segment:”Sheryl Speaks” and given one of the coveted performance spots on the BET Comedy Awards. From those appearances Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx selected Sheryl to appear with him on Showtime’s Laffapollozza.
Sheryl’s appeal is her down-to-earth nature, likable style, and ability to use humor to drive home her point of view. With over 20 years of professional comedy experience and Masters Degree under her belt, she brings adult conversation to the stage, discussing sex, politics, currents, and relationships. Sheryl dares to say what people want to say but don’t… but she still is fun-loving Zeta Phi Beta Sorority girl…so you can relate to what she is saying. Her controversial opinions as a God-fearing, sexually progressive, staunch Republican, come across loud & clear during her on-stage performance, much to the enjoyment of her loyal and new fans. Sheryl headlines top comedy clubs across the country, including Caroline’s On Broadway, the Improv & Funny Bone comedy club chains.
